Joel Goldsmith Passes

Joel Goldsmith, son of Star Trek composer Jerry Goldsmith, passed away yesterday at the age of fifty-four.

Gateworld broke the news on their Twitter feed this morning, promising more information later today.

Takei Supports Social Security Bill

Star Trek‘s George Takei appeared in Washington, D.C. yesterday in support of The Social Security Equality Act bill (H.R. 4609), introduced by California Representative Linda Sánchez.

H.R. 4609 would eliminate the Social Security Administration policy which denies certain benefits to same-sex couples.

Saldana: I Want Children

Even though she is currently single, Star Trek XI‘s Zoë Saldana hasn’t given up on wanting to have children of her own.

The actress revealed that she spoke about the topic with her ex-fiancé while they were still together, but the timing was never right for the couple.

Space Shuttle Enterprise Lands At JFK

The Space Shuttle Enterprise made its last flight today, departing this morning piggybacked atop a 747 from Washington, D.C., and arriving at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.

On hand to greet the arrival of the Enterprise was Star Trek‘s Leonard Nimoy, in town for the occasion.

Kurtzman And Orci Join Spider-Man

Star Trek 2 Co-writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will be turning their talents to the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man.

The Amazing Spider-Man will open this summer, and the sequel to it, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, will appear on movie screens in May of 2014.

Cumberbatch Scrambled To Get Villain Part

For Benedict Cumberbatch, getting the role as the newest Star Trek baddie meant a bit of work during his Christmas vacation.

Last December, while on Christmas break in Gloucestershire, England, Cumberbatch got the word that J.J. Abrams wanted a videotaped audition from him for a role in Star Trek 2.

Trek 2 Actors Update Movie Progress

Chris Pine and Benedict Cumberbatch spoke about their recent work on Star Trek 2, including progress on the film and preparations for playing one of the characters.

When it comes to Star Trek 2, fans can expect plenty of action and an exciting film according to the actor playing Captain Kirk. “It’s just as action-packed at the first one,” Pine said.

New Trek Set Photos

German TNG Blu-ray Release Date

German fans waiting for the international release of the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation in Blu-ray will be getting their DVDs a bit sooner than they thought.

Earlier, it was announced that the UK release would be on July 23, with the North American release to follow soon afterwards. The German release was originally thought to be on August 9th.

Takei was in Toronto to attend the annual Sakura Ball, where he received the Sakura Award.

Shatner Sends Greetings To Space

Star Trek’s William Shatner sent a message to the members of the Expedition 30 crew currently in residence on the International Space Station.

Shatner decided to send the crew the message after he found out that some of the space-related songs from his Seeking Major Tom album were being played aboard the ISS.
