Even though the Star Trek franchise has gone through a bit of franchise fatigue, Star Trek: The Next Generation has left the fans hungry for more, according to LeVar Burton.
Burton credits more than just the storytelling for the reason why The Next Generation and its original series predecessor were so popular and remain so today. “[On the other shows] you didn’t tune in for the people,” he said. “You tuned in for the stories and the storytelling. But on the original series and Next Generation, you tuned in for the storytelling and you tuned in because you really cared about the characters.”

Star Trek: Enterprise‘s Scott Bakula has been cast in a recurring role on Desperate Housewives and will appear in the show’s final season.
Bakula will play Bree’s (Marcia Cross) “conservative, high-powered, straight-arrow attorney.” He will supposedly help Bree in her fight against a murder charge.
The eighth and final season of Desperate Housewives is currently airing.

Star Trek: Voyager‘s Tim Russ has won an award for his work on Bloomers.
Russ and fellow director Henryk Cymerman won Best Director of a Comedy at the Indie Soap Awards held in New York City last week.

A two-CD set of Cliff Eidelman‘s Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country score has been released by Intrada.
Disc one includes: “the complete score along with alternates and two versions of the original trailer music,” and the second disc includes: “Eidelman’s album program of Star Trek VI, cloned from a digital source. Eidelman recorded his score with an 86-piece orchestra at the 20th Century Fox Scoring Stage.”

Star Trek #6 will be released tomorrow, but fans of the series may see a seven-page preview today.

After hearing what Chris Pine has to say about him, Benedict Cumberbatch had some praise of his own for Pine and the Star Trek cast.
Pine had told MTV that Cumberbatch was “fantastic,” and that he was “super talented.” He went on to say that “we are more than grateful to have him aboard [Star Trek 2].”

Just days after images from the set of Star Trek 2 were released, a short video featuring Zachary Quinto and Benedict Cumberbatch has been posted online.
The video must have been taken at about the same time as the still images and in addition to action, shows Quinto on his lunch break.

Christopher Plummer, best known to Star Trek fans as General Chang in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, won an Oscar last night at the 84th Annual Academy Awards.
The Oscar, for Best Supporting Actor, was for Plummer’s role in Beginners, where he played an elderly widower who comes out of the closet after the death of his wife.

Two actors from the original series have joined more than forty actors who are against a merger of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of television and Radio Artists (AFTRA).
The merger of SAG and AFTRA would combine SAG’s 140,000 members and AFTRA’s 80,000 members, some of whom have membership in both groups.

The photos in question show Zachary Quinto, Zoë Saldana and newcomer Benedict Cumberbatch, whose role is not yet known.

Fans of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine‘s Armin Shimerman who live in the Los Angeles area can see the actor in Anton Chekhov‘s The Seagull.
Shimerman will playing the role of Shamrayev and will be in the “Rubles” cast, one of two casts which will be performing the play.

A new addition to the Star Trek Masterpiece Collection of Star Trek figurines will feature DeForest Kelley as Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy.
The polystone bust of McCoy, standing eight inches tall and five inches in width, will be released this July, and will sell for $79.99.
Other busts in the collection include Kirk and Picard (released last month) and the forthcoming Data (March 2012 release), Spock (June 2012 release) and Khan (June 2012 release.)
