More Trek Items To Be Auctioned

Some Star Trek memorablia will be auctioned off in a two-day auction at the end of July.

The Premiere Props’ Live Auction Extravaganza II will feature over 1,100 iconic movie and music memorabilia, including twenty Star Trek-related items.

Hemsworth To Star In Thriller

Chris Hemsworth, Star Trek XI‘s George Kirk, will be starring in an original thriller to be produced by Tripp Vinson, Beau Flynn and Will Ward.

Hemsworth will be starring in Shadow Runner, which has just been picked up by Sony.

Giacchino: Working With Abrams

Michael Giacchino knows what kind of movies he liked as a child and the composer prefers to work with directors that make the same kind of magical movies that he once watched.

Giacchino didn’t always know that he wanted to compose music, but he knew from a young age that he wanted to be associated with moviemaking in some way. “I had been making movies since I was nine,” he said. “I had tons of stop motion films. That’s how I spent my childhood. Making movies, super 8 movies, everything. I knew I always wanted to make movies in some capacity and be a part of what I loved.”

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol Trailer Released

The first trailer for Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol has made its online appearance.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, starring Tom Cruise, includes several Star Trek alumni amongst its cast and crew. J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk are producers, Michael Giacchino is composing the music and Simon Pegg is reprising his role of Benji Dunn.

Trek Writers On Character Development

Now that the younger versions of Kirk, Spock and McCoy have been introduced, those characters will begin to evolve and become more like the ones familiar to fans.

The characters in Star Trek XI weren’t quite what fans expected, but that was due to their youth. “Well, Spock, he’s pretty emotional in this one,” said Roberto Orci. “That’s because he’s younger.”

Pegg: Serious Scotty

In a new video interview at TrekMovie.com, Simon Pegg spoke about being a Star Trek fan and how he wants to play Scotty in Star Trek 2.

Unlike many Trek fans, Pegg didn’t start out with either the original series or with Star Trek: The Next Generation. He entered the world of Star Trek while watching the animated series as a child. “It was my gateway into Star Trek because I didn’t actually start watching the original series until I was about nine,” he said. “I definitely came across the cartoon first.”

Saldana To Judge Fashion Show

Zoe Saldana will be joining Kim Kardashian as one of two new guest judges on Lifetime’s Project Runway.

Saldana and Kardashian will appear as guest judges in the ninth season of the show, along with Christina Ricci and Malin Ackerman. They will be critiquing twenty aspiring designers.

Michael Kors and Nina Garcia are permanent judges on Project Runway, which is hosted by Heidi Klum.

Farrell Joins NOH8 Campaign

Terry Farrell, best-known to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fans as Jadzia Dax, has joined the NOH8 gay rights causes group photo campaign.

The NOH8 campaign photographs both celebrities and non-celebrities, with their mouths duct taped and with the “NOH8″ slogan written on a cheek.

The Captains At Comic-Con

Another treat is in store for fans attending next month’s San Diego Comic-con, they will be able to get a preview of William Shatner‘s The Captains documentary and will also be able to participate in a question and answer session with Shatner.

For those not attending Comic-Con, The Captains makes its world premiere on July 22 at 8:00 P.M. EDT on EPIX and EpixHD.com. The showing will be part of “Shatnerpalooza,” which will also include William Shatner’s Gonzo Ballet, the first six Star Trek movies and various movies and television show guest appearances featuring Shatner.

Locke & Key To Screen At San Diego Comic-Con

Fans curious about the Locke & Key unsold pilot will have a chance to see it at this year’s San Diego Comic Con.

IDW Publishing received permission from 20th Century Fox TV, the pilot’s producer, to show the pilot.

Locke & Key will be screened on July 22 at 10:30 A.M. in Room 8, and will be followed by a panel discussion in Room 9. The panel will include Joe Hill, Gabriel Rodriguez, Josh Friedman, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

According to an IDW ad, “This one-time-only screening of the entire pilot will show you just what a void there will be on your TVs this fall.”

Giacchino Would Return To Trek

Although doing the score for Star Trek XI was initially a “nightmare” for Michael Giacchino, he would not be averse to returning for Star Trek 2.

High expectations for the J.J. Abrams sequel were anxiety-provoking for Giacchino. “Doing that score was a huge nightmare for me,” he said. “I was so excited up to the point where I actually had to sit there and do it. Then I was like, ‘Oh, my god. What do I do?’”

Wang: Voyager Set Was A Comedy Club

Star Trek: Voyager might have been a serious show, with a starship crew lost in the Delta Quadrant desperately trying to get back home, but for the actors portraying that crew, being on the Voyager set was more akin to a being in a comedy club.

Garrett Wang, who played the quiet, unassuming Harry Kim, enjoyed working with his co-actors and enjoyed their brand of humor. “When I look back upon the experience, what stands out most are the times we Voyager actors shared on the set when the camera wasn’t rolling,” said Wang. “I’ve always said that if we kept the cameras rolling between takes, and broadcast that footage as a half-hour reality show, it would be the highest rated show on television!”
