Shore Leave 33 will be held July 8-10, 2011 at the Marriott Hunt Valley Inn in Hunt Valley, Maryland with Star Trek actors and Trek novelists in attendance.
Hosted by STAT (The Star Trek Association of Towson, Inc.), the fan-run Shore Leave is one of the oldest and largest fan-run science fiction conventions in the country.

Sir Patrick Stewart has explained why he picked a fight with Glamour Awards ceremony host James Corden last year.
Stewart was supposed to be onstage to present an award to Zoë Saldana for Film Actress of the Year, but although he presented the award, Stewart was more interested in verbally lashing Corden, much to the embarrassment of Saldana, as reported here.

Star Trek XI‘s Zoë Saldana will be presented with a Midnight Award at the Midnight Awards segment of the 54th San Francisco International Film Festival, due to take place later this month.
The awards ceremony, which “takes the format of a late night talk show,” will be hosted by New York Times best-selling author Beth Lisick. Saldana will be interviewed by Lisick during the show.

The Jonathan Frakes-directed episode of Bar Karma will air tonight on Current TV, but fans can see a preview of the show now.
Two preview videos have been released; one featuring Frakes in a cameo in the show, and the other one highlighting Genie Francis, who is the guest star in the Three Times a Lady episode, which airs tonight.

Recently, Wil Wheaton had to undergo the indignity of a routine security at the Los Angeles airport and he found the experience anything but routine.
When passengers in America fly, they are given a choice between being scanned, where not much is left to the imagination, or if they opt out of the scan, an intrusive pat-down by a (Transportation Security Administration) TSA agent.

George Takei, Star Trek‘s Lieutenant Sulu, can be seen in two new YouTube videos; one of which is a new commercial for the Social Security Administration and the other a promotion for his forthcoming role in Allegiance, a musical to appear on Broadway next year.
In the Social Security commercial, the latest in a series of commercials that have featured baby boomer celebrities such as Chubby Checker, Takei teams up with Patty Duke to encourage seniors to sign up for Social Security benefits online.

There is good news for Star Trek fans today as word comes courtesy of TrekMovie that Star Trek will begin streaming on Netflix in just a few short months.
Back in February, TrekToday announced that a two-year deal had been struck between CBS Corporation and Netflix, Inc. to stream select TV shows from CBS’s library, including Star Trek episodes from all five televised series.

Nichelle Nichols was the guest on Blogtalkradio yesterday in a forty-five minute interview which fans can hear here.
The actress who played Lieutenant Uhura appeared on the show in hopes of obtaining support for the victims of the Japanese earthquake relief efforts. “It’s only been three or four weeks,” she said, “and with the nature of communication and television and news service, at least they are still involved with reporting but much of it is very negative.”

Speaking to the press at WonderCon in San Francisco this weekend, Star Trek XII‘s Roberto Orci gave a progress report on the Star Trek movie sequel.
The first draft of the script for Star Trek XII is complete, but that doesn’t mean the writing is done. “We’ll be working and tweaking that story through shooting,” said Orci.
