Fox Commits To Abrams Pilot

1 min read

J.J. Abrams, who co-created the popular Lost along with Jeffrey Lieber and Damon Lindelof, is working on another project which will be set on an island.

The pilot for Alcatraz, the new “top secret” project by Abrams, has been picked up by Fox.

Information on the proposed series is scant, with only a one-line description available. Alcatraz will be “a show about mysteries, secrets and the most infamous prison of all time: Alcatraz.”

Abrams will be executive producer along with lead writer Elizabeth Sarnaoff and Bryan Burk.

The real Alcatraz, sometimes referred to as the “Rock” was a prison until 1963. Famous prisoners such as Al Capone served time in the prison which claimed to have never had a successful prisoner escape. In 1979, the film Escape from Alcatraz documented the 1962 escape attempt of three prisoners. The fate of those three prisoners has never been definitely determined; either they drowned in the icy waters of San Francisco Bay, or they made it to the mainland and vanished into obscurity.
