Trekfest Aims For Guinness World Record

1 min read

Another Star Trek convention aims to shatter the world record for Trek fans in costume.

Back in February, the first Guinness World Record was set for the largest gathering of people dressed as Star Trek characters, with ninety-nine fans dressed in costume setting the record.

Since then, several more attempts have been made. Vulcan Events tried for the record on May 1, 2010, with one hundred and ten fans in Tampa, Florida, dressed up as Federation officers, Andorians, Ferengi, Klingons and even a Gorn from the original series.

On the same day at FedCon in Bonn, Germany, five hundred and seven fans donned costumes in hopes of securing the record. That attempt hasn’t yet been certified.

Now, Trekfest XXVI will make the attempt, on Saturday, June 26, in Riverside, Iowa. Trek fans will remember that Riverside is the “future birthplace of James T. Kirk.”

Trekfest XXVI usually attracts between 1,500-3,000 fans for the two day event, scheduled for June 25-26 this year. The costume contest is slated for 11:15 A.M., after the 10:00 A.M. Trekfest parade.

Guests for Trekfest XXVI will include Walter Koenig, Barbara Luna and James Cawley.
