Stewart To Voice Dorothy Of Oz Character

A new animated sequel to The Wizard of Oz is in production, with Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s Patrick Stewart voicing one of the new characters.

Stewart will voice Tugg, a “talking tree turned talking tugboat,” who is a “humorous old soul” as well as being “adventure-seeking.”

Trek Doctor Cracks TV Top Ten

A Star Trek doctor is included on a list of the “10 Classic TV Doctors.”

The ten doctors, whose names are well-known to television viewers, range from a youthful but gifted Doogie Houser, to the curmudgeonly Gregory House.

PETA To Crash Star Trek Live At NASA

Star Trek fans looking forward to the debut of Star Trek Live tomorrow at the Kennedy Space Center will have to put up with the antics of PETA first.

PETA will end up being a P.I.T.A. for Trek fans, as the group plans on dressing up as “Trekkies” to greet visitors, according to a press release from the organization.

Star Trek Online: Ask Cryptic

A new installment of Ask Cryptic, where questions from Star Trek: Online players are answered by the developers of the MMORPG game, has been posted.

Some of the questions include new ship tiers, mini-games, going beyond the Galactic Barrier, Exploration missions, missions on canon worlds such as Vulcan and Andoria, and Q.

Takei Supports IFT In Voyages Interview

On June 15, The International Federation of Trekkers (IFT) will launch their new website, and part of their relaunch includes the premiere of Voyages, their official publication, as reported earlier here and here.

TrekToday received a sneak peek of the forthcoming issue, and one of the articles in the magazine features Star Trek‘s George Takei, who has a long association with the IFT, or the “Federation” as it is sometimes called.

It’s An Elementary School, Dear Data

An elementary school in Louisiana looks as if it would fit right into the futuristic world of Star Trek.

Viewing the school from above, South Polk Elementary School in Leesville, Louisiana looks like a Constitution class starship.

Even the blueprints of the school put one in mind of a starship.

Mondo Star Trek Poster Debuts

A new partnership between Mondo and CBS has resulted in a new line of posters, beginning with a familiar villain from the original series.

For the next poster in its series, Mondo will need to make more, as the entire run of the first poster, which featured Khan from Space Seed, sold out in an hour.

Shatner Backs Bid To Protect Wild Salmon

William Shatner support a British Columbia bill to protect wild salmon on British Columbia’s west coast.

Shatner will call in from Los Angeles tomorrow to a press conference organized by the New Democratic Party (NDP) to voice his support for the bill.

Ryan Explains Mortal Kombat Video

Those curious about why Jeri Ryan appeared as Sonya Blade in a recent Mortal Kombat YouTube video got an answer from the actress who explained via Twitter what the purpose of the seven-minute clip was.

The short video was a movie pitch, said Ryan. “It’s not a game trailer. Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK [Mortal Kombat] film.”

Stewart-Corden Spat Awkward For Saldana

Normally, the only stress involved in going onstage to collect an award happens when one trips on the way up to the podium, or forgets an acceptance speech, but for Zoë Saldana, receiving her award meant trying to stay out of a fight between the host of the ceremony and Sir Patrick Stewart.

At last night’s Glamour Awards in London, Stewart, onstage to present the gong for Film Actress of the Year to Saldana, took issue with how comedian James Corden was standing.

Kurtzman And Orci To Produce Bank Heist Film

Now You See Me, a film about a team of the world’s greatest illusionists who just happen to rob banks, has been picked up by Summit.

The ever-busy Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will produce the film, written by Boaz Yakin and Edward Ricourt. Yakin and Bobby Cohen will executive produce.

Now You See Me is a thriller that: “pits a crack FBI squad in a game of cat-and-mouse against a super-team of the world’s greatest illusionists, who pull off a series of daring bank heists during their performances, showering the profits on their audiences while staying one step ahead of the law.”

Trekfest Aims For Guinness World Record

Another Star Trek convention aims to shatter the world record for Trek fans in costume.

Back in February, the first Guinness World Record was set for the largest gathering of people dressed as Star Trek characters, with ninety-nine fans dressed in costume setting the record.

Star Trek HeroClix Game To Release

Fans of WizKids HeroClix will be happy with the news that a Star Trek version of the collectible miniatures game will be released later this year.

A new press release announced the agreement between CBS Consumer Products and WizKids/NECA which made the Trek version of the game possible.

Deep Roy Hopes For Keenser Return

Deep Roy, the genre actor who portrayed Scotty’s sidekick Keenser in Star Trek XI, has his fingers crossed that fans will see his character again in the next Star Trek movie.

In a video taken at the 2010 Sci-Fi Expo in Richardson, Texas, Deep Roy, best-known to fans for his role as an Oompa Loompa in 2005′s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, spoke about his admiration for J.J. Abrams as well as his hopes for a future role in Star Trek XII.
