1 min read

Anton Yelchin, best-known to Star Trek fans as Pavel Chekov in Star Trek XI, has signed to voice the role of Clumsy Smurf in The Smurfs.

Yelchin joins Fred Armisen (Brainy Smurf), Jonathan Winters (Papa Smurf), George Lopez (Grouchy Smurf), Katy Perry (Smurfette), Alan Cumming (Gutsy Smurf). Live-action cast include Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays as an expectant couple, Hank Azaria (evil wizard Gargamel) and Sofia Vergara as Harris’s boss, a cosmetics executive.

In The Smurfs, “When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village, they tumble from their magical world and into ours, in fact, smack dab in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.”

The movie will be a CGI/live action hybrid 3D adaptation of The Smurfs, and is due out August 3, 2011.
