Star Trek XI comes out on DVD and Blu-ray next week, and included with the movie are special features touching upon various aspects of creating Star Trek XI.
Eric Bana is seen in a short clip shown below discussing his transformation into the Romulan Nero. When first provided an image showing how Nero would look, Bana liked what he saw. “As bizarre-looking as it was,” he said, “I also found it to be quite beautiful.”
A new single player type will be offered for the Star Trek D-A-C game.
Star Trek D-A-C has three pre-existing multiplayer game types; Team Deathmatch, Conquest and Assault, but now single players will be able to use the new Survival Mode.
Using Survival Mode, Starfleet captains will choose between four ships. Their goal is to get through four rounds with five different zones each, shooting down as many Romulan enemy drones as they can before their three lives end.
Some North American Star Trek fans eager to get their hands on the Star Trek XI DVDs can head to select local Blockbuster stores at midnight, November 16.
Twenty Blockbuster stores will be open at midnight to sell the DVD and Blu-ray versions of Star Trek XI. Some of the stores will offer various giveaways.
According to Cryptic Studios Producer Craig Zinkievich, some ideas previously omitted from Star Trek: Online may be included as the game evolves.
The development team had “plenty” of ideas, said Zinkievich. “Some of the biggest were allowing players to play as neutral factions (like traders) or play as an officer on another player’s ship.”
Star Trek: The Art of the Film, a new book with artwork from those who worked on Star Trek XI is due out in bookstores next week.

Star Trek received five nominations for the People’s Choice Awards.
The 2010 People’s Choice Awards will be given at a ceremony on January 6th at the Nokia Theater, L.A. Live in Los Angeles. Queen Latifah will be the ceremony host.
Gene Roddenberry will be inducted into the Television Academy’s Hall of Fame in January along with comedy duo Tom and Dick Smothers and actress Candice Bergen.
The annual ceremony will be joined by Saturday Night Live and game show announcer Don Pardo, The Price is Right game show creator Bob Stewart and Emmy-award winning art director Charles Lisanby.

Winona Ryder, seen earlier this year as Spock’s mother in Star Trek XI, is in talks to co-star as a ballet dancer in Darren Aronofsky‘s Black Swan.
Swan, a supernatural thriller set in the ballet world of New York City, is the story of a veteran dancer, played by Natalie Portman, and a rival (Mila Kunis,) who are “tangled in a manipulative relationship.” Ryder would be a fellow dancer.

“The movies have tended to have stronger, or at least more blatant, villains than the television series, and the reason for that can be summed up in one word: “Khaaaaaannnn!!!!” writes Parkin. “The second season episode Space Seed and its movie sequel Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan presented the show with a rare super-villain. Khan is a warrior scientist; a futurist visionary from the unenlightened past; a man of passion and cold strategies. Movies can’t be as sedentary as some television episodes, much of Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Enterprise seems to consist of characters sat around a table explaining to each other what we all just watched in the last ten minutes. They need more pace, more of an impetus to action. More action.”
J.J. Abrams is in talks to produce Micronauts, a movie about the Japanese interchangeable toys first sold in the 1970s.
Micronauts were first released as Microman in Japan in 1974. The 3.75-inch toys made it to the U.S. in 1976 but the line was discontinued in 1980. In 2002, Palisades Toys bought the rights to make Micronauts.

Episodes within Star Trek: Online are meant to let the player feel as if they’re playing an episode of Star Trek itself. The writers and developers of the game went though over seven hundred Star Trek television episodes before sitting down and writing their own for the game.
