Orci And Kurtzman Give Star Trek XII Status Update

1 min read

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci spoke briefly about Star Trek XII during their appearance at the 2009 Screenwriting Expo in Los Angeles today.

The duo was asked about a possible release date for the sequel. Orci said that it looked like the sequel would make its appearance in 2012, “but we’re not sure.”

According to Kurtzman, the release date changed and so the due date for the first draft changed also. “Originally we were thinking we’d have to have it by Christmas, but the release changed,” he said. “Certainly I’d say in the next eight months.”

Orci also described what the pair were doing to prepare to write a script for the sequel. “We’re in the process of re-reading some of our favorite Star Trek novels and looking at the show again,” he said. “We have some basic themes. The honest answer is we don’t know yet.”

As for young Kirk, Spock and the rest of the crew? “They’re finally in their continuing adventure,” said Orci. “They’re finally established. They’re finally a crew. It will resemble more of what you’ve seen in terms of they’re already how they are.”
